As regular visitors to the blog know, I’ve taken several different approaches in recent months to try and build the Twitter following for my @KnowWhosAwesome feed.
I’ve asked you to pity me. I’ve attempted to shame you. I’ve even inserted hyperlinks.
This has had modest results, and I thank those of you who have responded. However, I’m aiming for something bigger, so I figure it’s time I put my money where my mouth is, talk some turkey—really whatever money-related cliché works for you—and engage in one of humankind’s finer practices:
It’s quite simple, really: I’m going to give one follower of @KnowWhosAwesome a $50 Amazon gift card.
That’s in bold because it’s impressive, by the way.
So, how do you enter the The First-Ever “How Desperate Am I?” @KnowWhosAwesome Contest? (That name is pretty self-explanatory, I think.)
First things first: You have to be a legal resident of the United States who is 18 years or older and following @KnowWhosAwesome on Twitter. If you already are, congratulations on your exquisite taste. If you’re not on Twitter, go to http://twitter.com/#!/knowwhosawesome and sign up. And if you are on Twitter but not following @KnowWhosAwesome, get it together, man.
OK, so you’re an official follower now; thank you. However, you have NOT entered the contest yet. There are two ways you can go about doing so:
(1) Post a comment on this post listing the Twitter account you’re using to follow @KnowWhosAwesome. There’s no limit on the number of your own Twitter accounts you can enter, but each must be submitted via a separate comment. You’ll receive one entry for each Twitter account you enter in this way.
(2) Encourage friends, family, complete strangers, etc. to enter as outlined in (1) and ask them to include who told them about the contest (i.e., a Twitter account you’re using to follow @KnowWhosAwesome) in their comments. You will receive one entry each time another follower lists you in this way.
It’s on you to convince those you tell about the contest that they should include your Twitter account on their entries. Threatening to break their knee caps usually works.
Also, don’t be a lame-ass and list one of your own Twitter accounts as having referred another of your Twitter accounts to the contest; such chicanery is expressly forbidden by the official rules.
That’s right, there are official rules. Check ‘em out here.
Comments are welcome to include text besides the one (or when applicable two) Twitter accounts being entered in the contest. However, the only thing that will get counted is Twitter names, so don’t submit your or someone else’s real name (or your Blogger name, for that matter) and think that will cut it. I suggest a format along these lines:
Twitter Name I Use to Follow @KnowWhosAwesome: SmartestGuyEver99
Twitter Name of the Person Who Told Me About This Contest: TwitterGuru79
Whatever order those Twitter names appear on the screen, that’s how they’ll be counted for the random drawing for the Amazon gift card. So, if the example above was the only comment received, SmartestGuyEver99 would be entry #1, TwitterGuru79 would be #2, and my wife would be questioning her decision to marry a guy who just paid $50 for two Twitter followers.
Perhaps I didn’t think this through.
(She’s not allowed to enter, and neither are my other immediate family members; my in-laws are fair game, though.)
The contest is open now and closes at 12:00 AM (EDT) this coming Monday, June 27. The winner will be notified through direct message on Twitter and, once confirmed, announced on the blog.
Let the games begin.
