Internet Win of the Day: Nov. 20

Just something I thought was awesome for reals …

tweet with helicopter displaying Notre Dame flag and #1 sign

Even if you’re not a Notre Dame fan, you have to appreciate how cool this is. And in case there was any doubt: Yes, those of us who did go to Notre Dame are pretty excited about being No. 1 this week for the first time in almost 20 years.

This tweet came my way from The New ND Nation (@TNNDN), which is trying to resurrect the good name of “Notre Dame Nation” from a website that’s done its very best to drag it down via the high-browed repartee that often characterizes Internet message boards. And clearly, passing on this picture from Notre Dame alumni Hayden and Maggie fits that mission to a T.

TNNDN gets today’s full Internet win point; that’s my decision as the proprietor of this fine website. However, I think I speak for all my readers when I say Hayden and Maggie have our deepest gratitude and respect for their service to our country and all of us.

Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving, ladies, and GO IRISH.

TNNDN is great. I am a subway alum (just a lifelong fan because my grandfather was a fan and passed his love to my Dad, who passed it to me) and they do a great job of welcoming ALL fans. The ONLY other place or group that I have found that is like TNNDN is IrishEnvy.com. It is a message board & they set themselves apart from the others by doing the same things as TNNDN does. All of the others savage boards I have gotten on, seem to either look down upon people that did not attend ND and pull for them (treat “subway alum” like second class fans or fake fans that know nothing about ND. This past weekend I was able to live out my lifelong dream of going to a game. My wife, my six year old daughter and I left Wednesday and drove 13 hours to see the beautiful campus, walk in the same places as some of the greatest minds, and experience ND. Words can not describe ND. We have tried to describe Notre Dame and its beauty. It is impossible. While there, we were amazed at the friendliness and hospitality of not only everyone on campus, but everyone in the community. We sat beside a current players fiancée at the pep rally and her daughter & mine played & struck up a little friendship during it. After seeing our love & passion for ND, she invited us to meet some of the players & their families that night. Everyone, from the players to the parents, were so friendly. No one treated us like we were less of a fan because neither my wife not I attended this great university. I say all of that to say this, TNNDN & IrishEnvy.com are the only true extensions of ND this “subway alum” has ever found.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience of campus, Charles. I’m glad you and your family had such a great time here this weekend, and I hope you’re able to come back again soon.
